Pinturault gold in the combined, Azzurri bad
French skier triumphs on home slopes in Meribel
Alexis Pinturault won the gold medal in the men’s combined event at the ongoing Alpine Skiing World Championships in Meribel-Courchevel. The French skier triumphed on his home slopes ahead of Austrians Marco Schwarz and Raphael Haaser. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Vincent Kriechmayr decided not to participate in the slalom after falling behind in the first run.
As was in the forecast, the Azzurri did not shine; Tobias Kastlunger and Giovanni Borsotti, the only two to finish the run, were both far from the leaders. Mattia Casse went out in the first run, as did Dominik Paris who was nevertheless optimistic ahead of the SuperG: “Optimal slope conditions, it was a good test for the SuperG. I understood other things about the slope, I understood some details of the set-up for the race. I am satisfied,” he told Rai.
