Messi-PSG: Rothen advises against renewal and goes on the attack
Rothen attacks Messi and advises against renewal
Jerome Rothen, former PSG player, during his broadcast on RMC advised the Parisian club against renewing Lionel Messi’s contract: “Managing Messi, Neymar and Mbappé is very complicated. Plus, the Argentine’s salary is very high. I see PSG trapped in the stakes of financial fair play, because the payroll has practically exploded. Now they have the opportunity to recover a huge amount of money with Messi’s salary, this could allow the club to buy someone else and improve the team. For all these reasons, renewing Messi’s contract is a bad idea.”
He then went on to reiterate, firing back at the seven-time Ballon d’Or: “In terms of image and what emerges, I don’t understand why Messi wants to continue his adventure in Paris. He never makes an effort to put the team in front of him, he never thanks the fans, he puts his head down and goes to the locker room. Even when he celebrates goals and the crowd chants his name, he never makes a gesture toward the fans to thank them for their support. PSG should not keep Messi, because it is clear that the player is not involved wants to invest in this project. So, I don’t think it is a good idea to go ahead.”
