Ganna, Milan, Lamon and Moro ahead of the pack at European Championships: gold in team pursuit
Second gold after Simone Consonni’s in the points race
Third medal of the day and second gold for the Italian expedition at the European Track Cycling Championships being held in Grenchen, Switzerland. After Simone Consonni’s gold in the points race and the women’s quartet’s silver in the team pursuit, the reigning Olympic champions, with Manlio Moro in Consonni’s place, overcame Great Britain in the final of the men’s team pursuit.
Filippo Ganna, Jonathan Milan, Francesco Lamon and Manlio Moro won substantially easily, edging out the British by more than a second with a time of 3′ 47″ 667. The Azzurri also set a new track record. Completing the podium was Germany, which got the better of France in the final for bronze.
First success ‘among the big boys’ for the very young Manlio Moro, a promising class of 2002, who at the end of the race could not hold back his tears.
