Max Verstappen makes waves: pole in Australia. Ferrari on the third and fourth rows
Max Verstappen on pole position in Melbourne
Max Verstappen dominated qualifying for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, taking pole position number 22 in his career. The world champion was unrivaled in the three qualifying sessions at the wheel of his Red Bull, finishing more than two tenths ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell, who will start next to him on the front row.
Behind them are the two veteran drivers Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), while to see the first of the two Ferraris one has to climb up to fifth place Carlos Sainz Jr. Even further back is Charles Leclerc, seventh behind the other Aston Martin of Lance Stroll. Very bad Sergio Perez, on the other Red Bull: set-up problems caused him to run off the track, which prevented him from setting a fast lap in Q1: he will start last.
