Moto2: Tony Arbolino mocked in photo finish, Pedro Acosta wins
A real mockery, after a masterful race and a knockout duel.
Pedro Acosta won the Moto2 Grand Prix of the Americas, beating a Tony Arbolino spaced out by just 146 thousandths in a photo finish. Great mockery for the centaur from Garbagnate Milanese, who started eighth, was third after the first corner and was able to take the lead after just five laps. Only in the final, however, the battle between the two lasted over ten laps and rewarded the Spaniard.
Arbolino and Acosta engaged their battle already with 11 laps to go, with Canet third and already more than a second behind. The last seven are consumed with the two distanced by a few hundredths, and the duel ignites on the third-to-last lap with the first overtake and counter-overtake. With two laps to go it is the Lombard who seems to prevail, but with just a few corners to go Acosta manages to thread the decisive overtake. In the end it was Bo Bendsneyder who completed the podium (the first for him in Moto2), with Canet eighth ahead of Celestino Vietti. Dennis Foggia finishes 14th.
