Giro 2023, Jonathan Milan amazes himself: ‘I won and I don’t believe it’
His victory triggered irrepressible joy mixed with disbelief.
Jonathan Milan enters the Giro d’Italia palmarès, thanks to his sprint victory in the second stage of the 2023 pink race: the Teramo-San Salvo. The Friulian, skillful in his sprint to the finish line ahead of the other sprinters who contended for him, admitted at the end of the day that he had gone beyond his own expectations.
“I still can’t believe it, I’m speechless,” Milan admitted to the microphones of ‘Eurosport.’ “This is my first Giro d’Italia and my second stage ever. And already I managed to win, it feels like something incredible. Absolutely incredible.”
His exploit, in any case, did not come from nowhere. “My time trial yesterday had been good,” Milan stressed, “I had realized that I was doing well, however, I could not imagine myself getting to win today. The team did a colossal job, they not only managed to put me in the best possible position but also managed to convey calmness to me. They kept telling me to ride calmly, and then the stage win came.”
