Tour: long-distance duel between Pogacar and Vingegaard
Long-distance duel between Pogacar and Vingegaard
Speaking at the press conference, Tadej Pogacar wanted to send a message to yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard: “I will clearly have to take any chance I can, on every climb. I will have to try to give everything every day, and almost everyone is tough now, so I have to give everything to try to turn things around. I would also like to have no regrets at the end. I’m pretty far in the standings. Of course it will depend on the legs, but when I see a chance to attack I will try. There will be many opportunities in the coming days.”
“Now he is the man to beat. He is so strong. But with more confidence in myself, and by going deeper with my energy, I can manage to pull away from him. So far he has been on my wheel every time, but I think there will be three days where anything can happen.”
Prompt the Dane’s response, “I have to be vigilant and watch everyone. Obviously it’s a different situation now that I have the yellow jersey. I certainly don’t see it as a burden. I am still quite relaxed. I expect a lot of attacks in the Pyrenees, without waiting for the last climbs. It will be hot and it will be exhausting stages.”
