Carlos Alcaraz on velvet with Flavio Cobolli
Velvet debut for Carlos Alcaraz in Roland Garros: the world number one disposed of Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli, making his debut in a Grand Slam tournament, with a score of 6-0 6-2 7-5 in nearly two hours of play.
Literally without history the first partial that saw Alcaraz dominate far and wide, closing it in his favor without leaving a single game to his opponent. The Roman tennis player tried to do something more in the second set, but the Spaniard proved to be of a different displacement and easily pulled ahead by two sets. In the third set, on the other hand, the Azzurri managed to trouble the number one seed on the scoreboard, forcing him to close only on the fifth match point for 7-5, after Cobolli had climbed back up to 5-5 by canceling three consecutive match points to the Murcian.
In the second round Alcaraz will face Japan’s Taro Daniel.
What is now being staged is edition number 122 of the French Open, one of the four tournaments that are part of the Grand Slam, the second in order of time after the Australian Open, which in 2023 was won by Serbian Novak Djokovic among men and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka among women.
