Everything is ready for the big tricolor week of fencing. From Wednesday, June 7 to Monday, June 12, La Spezia will host the highlight of the national season: the Italian Absolute Championships. Six days of great spectacle will be staged on the PalaMariotti platforms, with 12 titles up for grabs, six individual and as many team titles in the A1 Series Championships.
Dense calendar, with two competitions a day, marked by the same sequence: two days for each weapon, starting with saber, continuing with epee and closing with foil, first with individual competitions and then with the A1 Series team trials that will always see 12 formations on the platform to compete for the Tricolor, but also for permanence in the top category (the last three will relegate to A2 Series). Daily semifinals and finals starting at 5:30 p.m. with live coverage by RAI Sport.
The Spezia kermesse will start on Wednesday 7 with individual trials in men’s and women’s saber. Up for grabs are the titles won last season by Luigi Samele and Irene Vecchi. The men’s competition will start at 12:30 p.m. with 53 athletes on the platform, the women’s competition, with 36 qualified saberists, will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, however, will be dedicated to the A1 Series for the saber (from 11:30 a.m.) and saber (the start at 12 p.m.) teams.
On Friday, 9, space will be given to epee. A day that will see the two most numerous competitions of the week on the piste. At 9 a.m. the men’s test with 103 qualified swordsmen in the competition that was won a year ago by Federico Vismara. From 11 a.m. the start for 95 female swordsmen, holder of the title here is Federica Isola. Saturday 10 the A1 Series Championships in epee. At 10:15 a.m. the start of the women’s competition and at 11 a.m. the men’s.
Grand finale with the foil. Sunday 11 is the last day of individual trials: from 10:45 a.m. the start of the women’s competition with 54 qualified foilists, in the hunt for the title won in 2022 by Camilla Mancini. At 11:45 the start of the men’s rounds, 68 foilists will compete for the tricolor won 12 months ago by Damiano Rosatelli. Monday closes with team competitions in women’s foil (from 10:15 a.m.) and men’s foil (start at 11 a.m.).
