World Fencing Championships, female epees are in the finals for gold
Avenged the recent European final, when France defeated Italy.
A fourth medal is on the way for Italy at the 2022 World Absolute Championships in Cairo with the women’s epee girls, who reached the final.
The team composed of Rossella Fiamingo, Mara Navarria, Alberta Santuccio, and Federica Isola, which yesterday in the preliminary rounds had won against Uzbekistan 45-22 and Romania 45-28, today first overcame Switzerland 45-33 in the quarters and then landed in the final after a thrilling assault against France. At the end of the nine fractions the match was deadlocked at 29-all, but in the extra minute Rossella Fiamingo managed to put in the winning hit that made her teammates and CT Dario Chiadò rejoice and gave them the certainty of a medal. For the Azzurri, it is also a rematch of the recent European final, in which the transalpine women got the better of them. The next opponent will be Korea, reigning Olympic silver medalists.
The final is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27.
