Jannik Sinner brings Italy back to a tie: decisive doubles
Italy-Holland 1-1
Jannik Sinner brings Italy back into a tie in the Davis Cup quarterfinal match against the Netherlands. Following Matteo Arnaldi's regretful knockout, who squandered three match points, the South Tyrolean tennis player signed the 1-1, defeating Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands with a score of 7-6 6-1 after an hour and a quarter of play.
Jannik suffered only in the first set in which he could not shake off his opponent, who forced him into a tie-break. Here però the blue dominates the decisive game, which he makes his own by 7 points to 3, winning 7 of the last 8 points. In the second set, Sinner immediately went on the run (3-0), then signed the double break lead that led him to close on the 6-1 final.
Now the doubles between Italy and Holland will be decisive. Volandri has chosen the pair formed by Simone Bolelli and Lorenzo Sonego, but Sinner's option should not be ruled out, also because the South Tyrolean è remained on court just over an hour and still has plenty of energy to help the Azzurri snatch the pass to the semifinals.
