Frosinone to dream, resounding poker at Napoli: partenopei out of Coppa Italia
Italy Cup, Napoli-Frosinone 0-4
The potential quarterfinal between Napoli and Juventus will not be there; in fact, the partenopei were eliminated from the Coppa Italia on Tuesday evening by a brilliant Frosinone, able to impose itself with a resounding 4-0 on Walter Mazzarri’s team in the round of 16 played at the 'Maradona'. A match that è unlocked only after the half hour, rewarding the team more ù good at taking advantage of the opportunities created and the very inertia of the match.
The match initially lived in flashes, with both teams playing openly and Napoli making itself more dangerous in the first half: Cerofolini denied the joy of a goal to Lindstrom at 16', Raspadori hit the post six minutes later. At 37' a goal would also arrive, scored by a Giovanni Simeone good at taking advantage of Okoli’s defensive topica, but after a long consultation first in the Var room and then by referee Abisso at the on-field review comes the cancellation for a touch of Lindstrom’s hands at the start of the action. So it comes to halftime on 0-0.
The resumption sees Napoli hit another woodwork, on 53'this time with Mario Rui. Walter Mazzarri tries to rely on the heavy artillery by inserting Di Lorenzo, Lobotka and especially Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen, but at 65' comes the mocking 0-1: Garritano cross and Enzo Barrenechea header, the parabola taken by the ball deceives Gollini and the ciociari take the lead.
Napoli completely lost its bearings and Frosinone took advantage by scoring practically every time it could: at 70' Giuseppe Caso doubled taking advantage of a mistake in Di Lorenzo’s disengagement, at 91' Walid Cheddira made it 3-0 on a penalty kick caused again by a shocked Di Lorenzo (stomping in the box against Gelli). On the counterattack then came the poker, with Abdou Harroui, at 95' a goal that preceded the final whistle by a few seconds.
Napoli è therefore out of the Coppa Italia, eliminated as last year by a team fighting for salvation (then it was Cremonese, thoughé only after penalties). It will therefore be Frosinone that will face in the quarterfinals the winner of the challenge between Juventus and Salernitana, which will be staged on January 4 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
