Manchester City to quarterfinals in carriage, Real Madrid sweating
A wide win and a less convincing draw to get through the round.
Manchester City and Real Madrid advance in the Champions League, advancing to the quarterfinals. It was a Wednesday evening different in form but not in substance for the two big names of European soccer: the Englishmen in fact advance the round by beating Copenhagen 3-1 at home, while the Merengues have to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu against a Leipzig side as willing as it was unlucky.
Few surprises for Manchester City, which secured the game in just 10 minutes. They are those that are enough for Akanji to put his team ahead at 5' thanks to a beautiful turn on the development of a corner by Alvarez, and precisely for the latter to double at 9' with a torpedo from an impossible position after a Rodri cross. The guests tried to react with Elyounoussi, in goal on 29', but in the recovery of the first half the usual Haaland closed the accounts.
Good news only for the passage of the round, however, at home Real Madrid. At the Bernabeu, in fact, Leipzig was favored at the beginning of the match, with Openda fading two excellent chances on the counterattack and missing the goal with a sure-fire shot on the development of a corner. Again Openda in the opening half gets hypnotized by Lunin after clawing away a very insidious ball. So many chances wasted by the Germans, punished at 65' by Vinicius served by Bellingham even on a counterattack. Already at 68' Orban equalized with a header on a corner, but it was not enough. Also because Olmo's last attempt, in the middle of the recovery, chipped the crossbar.
