Goran Ivanisevic reveals Novak Djokovic’s secrets
The words of Goran Ivanisevic
Goran Ivanisevic è returned to talk to Swiss Tennis about Novak Djokovic: "When you coach him, anything other than winning the title in any tournament è a failure. There’è a lot of pressure to deal with. Novak è very demanding. Every day something new has to happen, he always wants to improve. If you can’t handle that, è better not to take the job at all. Language certainly helped me: there were no barriers between us. With Novak è like that: you only have a few seconds to explain something to him. Then he wants to know from you 15 things at once, but you only have three seconds to do it. So you have to try to summarize everything intelligently”.
"Sometimes I could understand him well, sometimes I couldn't,‖ added the former coach of the world number one. Maybe he wanted to know something about the serve and I would tell him something about the clouds. Then Novak would get angry with me, but at least it was about me. After five minutes he would calm down, and after venting he could play freely. Sometimes in tennis there’è needs a little shock to reset the head. I think the mental component is the most important factor in this sport”.
“Joking aside, in this industry the pressure is there’è every day. But that was fine with me. You get used to the circumstances. It helped that we both came from the Balkans. Novak and I are similar. I was always prepared for his possible reactions”.
