Jannik Sinner had no mercy on host Richard Gasquet, defeated in three sets in what may have been his last match at Roland Garros. The 22-year-old from Sesto Pusteria won the match valid for the second round 6-4 6-2 6-4 in an almost one-sided match.

Also worth mentioning is a curious episode in the tenth game of the first partial: Sinner placed the ball at the’intersection of the lines with a great forehand cross, but while the audience was rumbling thinking that he was out a young ball boy entered the court without the game actually being interrupted.

The chair judge had no choice but to let the point be replayed but that didn't stop Sinner from taking a 1-0 lead that put a match that was never really in dispute on the downhill slope and further moved the world number two closer to overtaking Novak Djokovic.
