Rowing smiles again for Italy at the Paris 2024 Olympics. After a second place finish in the men’s four pair, è came another silver medal in the light weight doubles.
Stefano Oppo and Gabriel Soares finished the event in 6’13″33 behind Ireland, which crossed the finish line in 6’10″99. Bronze medal, however, for Greece, which was mocked by Italy in the photo finish by only 11 cents.
For the Italian boat, this is the second consecutive podium in the Five Circles event, as in the Tokyo 2020 edition Stefano Oppo and Pietro Willy Ruta won the bronze medal.
Italy won a total of 40 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new record in terms of spoils in a single edition of the Games. Ten gold medals, as many silver medals and 20 bronze medals as well. In the Paris expedition, however, there are already 17 medals won, including 5 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze.
