Frenchman Leon Marchand won his fourth gold medal at the Paris Olympics this evening, winning the final of the 200 m freestyle. A few minutes after Florent Manaudou won the bronze medal in the 50 m freestyle, Marchand è entered the pool at La Défense amid deafening cheers from the French public.

Marchand finished the race with a time of 1'54"06 touching the world record by 6 hundredths and beating Britain’s Ducan Scott and China’s Wang Shun, the defending champion. The 22-year-old Marchand after the first week of the Games è without a shadow of a doubt the French favorite: before the gold in the 200 medley he had already won the 400 medley on Sunday before completing an incredible 200 butterfly-200 breaststroke double on Wednesday.

"I am very good at managing my energy. I can channel it – his words – The whole stadium è with me and I take advantage of it. In four days I won four medals". Marchand joins East Germany’s Kristin Otto and Americans Mark Spitz and Michael Phelps in the elite group of swimmers who have won four individual medals in the same edition of the Games.
