Nicola Pietrangeli exposes himself on Jannik Sinner’s forfeit in Paris 2024

During an interview given to the microphones of "Sussidiario.net", Italian tennis legend Nicola Pietrangeli bluntly commented on the decision by Jannik Sinner not to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympics due to tonsillitis he caught a few days before the start of the event.

"It's been bad news, a real shame. Jannik was one of the favorites, he was ready and gassed. Surely he would have gone far. He had a good chance to play it all the way and compete for the gold. "What could Sinner have done? That has to be asked of Sinner, as only he can know the answer and how is his body" added Nicola Pietrangeli.

During the media day ahead of the start of the Toronto Masters 1000, the Italian world number one himself did not hide his regret for missing the Olympic Games: "The forfeit broke my heart, it was one of my seasonal goals. The tonsillitis è was difficult, I took antibiotics for almost a week and didn’t touch the racket for days. When I left for Canada I was still not in perfect condition, now I am much better and with each passing day I feel stronger. I got to watch a few competitions of the Olympics, but I didn’t see much tennis".

Strengthened by the number one seed, Jannik Sinner will make his Canadian tournament debut directly in the second round against one of Pedro Martinez or a qualifier. In the potential third round, however, the South Tyrolean could find one between Alejandro Tabilo or Tallon Griekspoor.
