Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz surprised: "I thought it was all over"

After his victory with Tallon Griekspoor in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 in Beijing, Carlos Alcaraz also spoke in a press conference about Jannik Sinner, commenting on the reopening of the Clostebol case: "It's a very sensitive subject for Jannik, but also for the whole tennis world. I thought everything was resolved after Cincinnati, with the ITIA accepting that Sinner had done nothing wrong…. But now everything is reopened. I think for tennis it is not a good thing, not è a good signal for the tennis world in general".

"It seems that something happened,” added the Spanish champion. “I repeat, I thought that after a month it was all over, that nothing would happen again, that Jannik was innocent and that he did nothing wrong. I thought that about the affair and went back to focusing on myself. I don’t know what changed in this month. I just saw the news and surprised myself a little bit, I said "okay, what’s going on, why are they reopening it?". I don’t know what the next few months are going to be like. Certainly, again, not è a good sign for tennis".

"Well, I can understand that it is difficult for him, he is in a very difficult position. With everybody talking about it, with the news that keeps coming out. Probably, as he himself said in New York, è in a position where people have started to look at him differently. And I don’t know what he might be feeling. I certainly understand his position and I feel sorry for him".

"At the same time è it’s amazing how he’s managing to maintain the level of tennis he has with everything that’s going on around him. I hope he can put this aside as soon as possible and can get back to focusing on what he loves to do, playing tennis. What I can add è that I hope the people close to him will not feel too bad from this situation in the coming months" concluded Alcaraz.
