Jacques Villeneuve armors Sergio Perez at Red Bull
The Circus’ most shaky seat seems less in question than expected.
Sergio Perez and Red Bull seem to have been on the verge of parting their respective ways for weeks, months, perhaps even since last year. Yet the Mexican continues to be confirmed alongside Max Verstappen during the 2024 Formula 1 season and it is not è certain that this will not happen next year as well. An old fox of the Circus like Jacques Villeneuve is convinced of this, who also explained the reasons why the Anglo-Austrian team would have every interest in moving in this direction.
"It has been rumored for ten months now that Perez will not run in Red Bull as early as the next race, but è it is the case that we should stop saying such a thing. He has a contract,” Villeneuve recalled in an interview for Grasvenor Sport. “This is not to say that Franco Colapinto does not deserve to continue racing in Formula 1, but in Red Bull there'è Checo who è is under contract".
The Canadian, moreover, sees no glimmer of such a change within Red Bull. "Perez brings stability and sponsors, plus Verstappen è Verstappen è is happy to have him as a partner,” Villeneuve pointed out.
Maybe it affects the fact that Checo seems to have been a little lost for some time, but it might actually be Max himself who is driving extraordinarily well. The fact remains that there's really no need to change the ranks of drivers within the team".
"If a different driver came to Red Bull, and he ended up not doing better than Perez, what would they gain? They know it well too, since they have a very rich Junior Team. And so their goal is not è to put Colapinto on the track, but to grow the champions they have built at home. As they did precisely with Verstappen", concluded Villeneuve.
