The Netherlands failed to overturn the odds in the Davis Cup final against Italy. The Italian team, in fact, è became champions for the second consecutive time thanks to the successes in the two singles matches of Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner. At the press conference, Netherlands captain Paul Haarhuis, among other topics, recounted his brief chat with the world number one at the end of the match.

"The Italians played well, with great determination. We believed we could beat them. I think Berrettini played a very good match, but without Jannik Sinner I am convinced that we would have been able to win it" began the Netherlands captain.

"Tallon played a very good match, but in the end è it came a little less and Italy graduated again as champion. I congratulate them, forò we are happy with the path we made this week" added the former Dutch tennis player.

"With Jannik I said that next year we will have a Dutch passport ready for him. We will do everything, because he speaks German, so Dutch will be very easy for him to learn. He had a great year. Finishing number one, winning the Davis Cup as a star player for the second time in a row. He confided in me that this would be his last time in Davis with Italy, so I was very happy to hear this" concluded Paul Haarhuis.
