Matteo Gigante, world number 164, didn’t make it against the emerging Czech Jakub Mensik, number 21, who in the second round of the men’s singles at the Internazionali d’Italia beat him with a score of 7-6 7-5 in just over an ira and 40 minutes of play.

Two evenly matched sets in which there was only one break, the one on 5-5 in the second set in favor of Mensik, and only two other break points, saved by Gigante, who on 3-3 also in the second set had found himself down 15-40.

The situation was repeated four games later and this time Gigante had to surrender at the second opportunity for Mensik, who won the first set tie-break 7-4 by stringing five consecutive points from 4-2 in favor of the 23-year-old Roman.
