Giro d’Italia 2025, Plapp triumphs solo in stage 8: Ulissi new pink jersey

The eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025, from Giulianova to Castelraimondo, saw Australian cyclist Luke Plapp triumph. After a very tough course, characterized by continuous ups and downs and as many as four it was the Team Jayco AlUla cyclist who crossed the finish line first with a splendid solo action.
The stage started immediately at a fast pace, but the day’s breakaway struggled to take shape. Several sprints and counter-sprints enlivened the early kilometers. At one point the change of pace. A small group consisting of; Fortunato, Ulissi, Vendrame, Formolo, Bouwman and Plapp himself, took off. Fortunato himself showed great brilliance, winning the GPM of Sassotetto and gaining valuable points for the blue jersey.
In the most selective section, on the ramps of Montelago, the race was decided: Wilco Keldermann and Diego Ulissi tried to anticipate, but the blow of the day was placed by the Australian Plapp himself. The Australian pulled away from everyone on the descent, building up a lead of over a minute. Despite a comeback attempt by the pursuers, the Jayco rider coolly managed the final part, sprinting towards the finish line in Castelraimondo.
Second place for Keldermann, third Diego Ulissi who, thanks to the time bonuses and the gap inflicted on the pink jersey group, takes the top of the general classification. So the Giro leader changes, with Ulissi wearing the pink jersey for the first time in his career.
