With Slums Dunk Bruno Cerella confirms himself as a champion even off the parquet

Former national team basketball player Bruno Cerella, special guest of the beautiful initiative “Fustinoni go rebound… with You,” on the occasion donated a defibrillator to the Younited association. Cerella, co-founder of the Slums Dunk ODV project, contributed with this gesture to the mission of improving the lives of children and young people living in difficult contexts, both in Italy and abroad. Sportal.it interviewed him.

How important is it to you for your association and the work you are doing to make it known to as many people as possible?

It is critical. Working with so many kids, being a reference point for them, is something special. I’ve always been used to having people look up to me, but knowing that I can make a real impact in their lives goes beyond everything. Beyond the projects we carry out in Kenya, Zambia, Argentina, Cambodia, being present on Italian soil as well is crucial.

These are very noble goals…

We want to be a reference for young people, not only in sports but also in promoting values, in the opportunities they can have in life, in inclusion. After 14 years, Slam Dunk has become synonymous with friendship, with fun, with true values.
Being here today is beautiful: the field where we play was made by a friend of mine, Francesca Cassani, and it is extraordinary to see so many families and kids gathered in a public space where you can play for free. It is something magical. I am really proud of our association’s journey.

How is it possible that so many sports phenomena come out of Bahía Blanca? World champions in soccer, Daniel Bertoni and Lautaro Martinez, basketball aces like Manu Ginobili, top tennis players…you’re only 350,000!”

Yeah, Bahía Blanca is not a metropolis, but for example it has a great basketball tradition. We have 25 youth teams, 30 arenas in the city. We play every day, sports are everywhere. And most importantly, you can breathe basketball. It is right in the culture of the city.
