Jannik Sinner pays tribute to Richard Gasquet but fears next rival
Jannik Sinner spoke after qualifying for the third round of Roland Garros by ending Gasquet’s career: “It’s special to play here, against Richard I had played last year and I knew it wouldn’t be easy”.
“I am happy to be in the third round and I thank the audience for being respectful, even on such a special day. Richard and I have a good relationship off the court, and this is your moment. Congratulations on your wonderful career, also to your team and family. Without great people around you could not have a career like yours, everyone will remember you after you retire. You were a great tennis player with a great career, but also an amazing person. I wish you the best for the future”.
Sinner will now face Jiri Lehecka. “It will be a tough match. We will prepare the best we can. If I want to play equal I definitely have to raise the level. The body is pretty good. Long matches I haven’t had any yet. Now the next round will be much more physical. I have to be careful to make a lot of right choices if I want to win. The next match will be an important step for me. So far there are positive signs and in the end that is what I need”.
