Gian Piero Gasperini said goodbye to Atalanta in a long letter released to ‘L’Eco Di Bergamo’: “Through the city&#8217s premier newspaper, which I thank for its hospitality, I want to address the Atalanta fans with an open heart. My first thought in these hours is for them”.

“It was not possible to express it before, because it was only in the past few hours that I really decided to put an end to this wonderful nine-year-long story– admitted the now former Nerazzurri coach -. However, let&#8217s not talk about farewell. I do not like it. I close my experience in Bergamo as coach of Atalanta, everything else – instead – will remain unchanged”.

“The termination of my relationship with the club was solely decided by me and no responsibility should be attributed to the club and its managers – Gasp clarified. I simply understood that the time had come to take this step. Throughout the recently concluded season I only thought about how to leave the Nerazzurri jersey at the highest possible point. And I leave it in third place in the standings and qualified for the Champions League, where – once again – it will be able to play in the most prestigious stadiums in Europe, being able to count on a strong staff full of valued players”.

“With the Club we have managed to achieve unquestionably extraordinary results. I would have liked to do more, I did not succeed, but we still rejoiced so much together and I am sure you will again”.

“Why, you may ask, am I leaving Atalanta? Because of the need for new stimuli, because of the trust transmitted to me and the renewed enthusiasm that comes with it. Difficult challenge? Very. But we are talking about a great challenge, exhilarating, that transmits me so much adrenaline. We will see each other again in Pontida Square, I promise! Adòss!!!!
“Ps: I am an honorary citizen of Bergamo, and I swear that I will carry the values of this city” concluded Gasperini.
