Carlo Calcagni racks up victory after victory and does not hide his bitterness after yet another success, which came in Seregno, Brianza, during the stage of the Giro d’Italia Handbike.

“I have found out that my category, Tricycle, although admitted to participate in the Giro d’Italia Handbike, does not compete for the award of the Maglia Rosa: this really embittered me a lot” emphasizes the Colonel of the Role of Honor of the Italian Army.

“A discrimination as silent as it is absurd and painful – he adds -We live in a time when we talk, rightly, about inclusion, equal rights, dignity for every athlete. But if then certain athletes are not even given the opportunity to compete for the same symbolic goal, then the fine words remain such, and reality returns the bitter taste of exclusion. It is not a matter of cloth, but of respect”.

“I don&#8220t think that handing over an extra Pink Jersey puts a strain on the organization&#8211s budget,– the Paralympic champion continues. But I do think, indeed I know, that denying official recognition to those who fight with all their strength every day, in sport as in life, is a defeat for everyone. I will continue to give everything. Above all, I will continue to win my most important race: the one against disease and against indifference. I will never stop raising my voice against all forms of inequality, because inclusion means recognizing the value of every athlete, always and everywhere. Never give up, despite everything and everyone, whatever it takes”.
