Napoli and Alex Meret will continue their journey together. After months of negotiations and very few days before the natural expiration of his contract, the Neapolitan club has made official the renewal of the Friulian goalkeeper until June 30, 2027. An important choice of continuity for Napoli, which thus confirms between the posts one of the protagonists of recent seasons, decisive in the team’s recent successes.

Meret has worn the Azzurri jersey since December 2018, when he made his debut in the 4-0 win against Frosinone. Since then, he has collected an impressive 212 official appearances with Napoli, keeping his goal unbeaten on 68 occasions. Absolute outstanding data, embellished by two Scudettos won in the 2022/23 and 2024/25 seasons, in addition to the Coppa Italia won in 2020. In the season just ended, Meret confirmed himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Europe, finishing with 16 clean sheets in the league, a record shared with Roma’s Mile Svilar.

Despite the confidence placed in the Italian goalkeeper, Antonio Conte seems to want to further strengthen the department. The target remains Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, goalkeeper of Torino, who could arrive to ensure more competition and to alternate with Meret in a season that promises to be long and full of commitments. Also in the background remains the’Suzuki hypothesis, a young goalkeeper from Parma whom Napoli is closely monitoring.

The renewal of Meret, however, represents a sign of stability for the Azzurri team, which aims to defend the Scudetto won this year and to perform well in Europe as well. The management has chosen to armor one of the team’s recent symbols, confirming full confidence in him, but with the intention of building a competitive squad in every department.
