Fabio Fognini, moving farewell letter to tennis

Fabio Fognini confirmed that the one he lost in the fifth set to Carlos Alcaraz on the Wimbledon center court was his last match as a tennis player. “After a few days of reflection, I wrote this thought for you … That moment has come that, deep down, I knew would come, even though a part of me hoped it would never happen. The decision was not easy but I feel that this is the right time”.
“Tennis has been my universe: it has shaped me, made me grow, taught me resilience, strength and patience, as much in victories as in defeats. It has given me much more than I could have imagined and for that I will always be grateful” he wrote on his social channels.
“Thank you to all the coaches, contributors, and sponsors who have accompanied me along the way; thank you to my friends and all those who have supported me, in the exciting days and in the most difficult ones. Your affection has made this journey unforgettable. Thank you to family, the pillar of all my successes. Thank you mom and thank you dad: without you nothing would have been possible. And to you little sister, thank you for always being my first supporter. Flavia, you are the woman, mom and life partner I have always dreamed of. You were, are and will be my reference point. Thank you for giving me a dream family: three beautiful midgets who are my reason for living”.
The future, however, will not be without tennis: “An important chapter of my life closes. I leave with a heart full of joy, proud of the path I have traveled and curious to find out what the future holds. One thing is certain: my connection with tennis does not end here. See you soon, tennis. See you soon, my lover”.
