The women’s national water polo team took second place in Group A of the World Cup 2025, being held in Singapore. The Azzurre defeated the home team by a decidedly wide score: in fact, the scoreboard at the end indicated Italy as the winner of a match that never had any history, with a final score of 32-5.

All six goals came from the hands of Agnese Cocchiere, who scored more goals than all the opponents combined. Chiara Ranalli, on the other hand, added five goals, while Roberta Bianconi finished with a poker. Three goals apiece, then, for Paola Di Maria, Lucrezia Cergol and Sofia Giustini, and two for Morena Leone and Sara Cordovani.

The other four goals were equally divided among Veronica Gant, Dafne Bettini, Alessia Millo and Carlotta Meggiato. For Singapore, however, Heather Lee scored with a brace and, with one goal each, Jingxuan Yap, Abielle Yeo and Celeste Wan. As for the partials, Italy won 8-0 the first period, 8-1 the second, 6-1 the third and 10-3 the fourth.

The team coached by Carlo Silipo must still settle for the group&#8217s place of honor, which forces it to go through the qualifying playoff to the quarterfinals, already reached instead by Australia, which finished at the top of the group. Next opponent is China, which finished third in Group B behind the United States and the Netherlands.
