Samuel Privitera cut down by a tragic fatality

A tragic fatality, the one that snatched from life Samuele Privitera, a talented cyclist on the Continental team Hagens Berman Jayco who passed away on Wednesday evening in a bed at the Parini hospital in Aosta.
The young man fell while tackling a descent in the first stage of the 61st Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta-Mont Blanc, a competition reserved for the Under 23 category: after losing his helmet, he crashed his head against a gate, suffering injuries that unfortunately proved fatal.
Privitera was not even 20 years old: he was born in Imperia on October 4, 2005, and was a resident of the small town of Soldano, which has less than a thousand inhabitants and is not far from the border with France.
Thursday’s stage was canceled as a mark of respect for the unfortunate athlete who was tackling his second season as an Under 23. He will be back in the saddle on Friday but it cannot be ruled out that some team will decide to withdraw from the race.
