Tour de France: Thymen Arensman wins at Superbagneres, Remco Evenepoel withdraws

The Dutchman from Ineos Grenadiers Thymen Arensman won the fourteenth stage of the Tour de France, 182.2 kilometers starting in Pau and finishing jumping at Superbagneres with the hills of Tourmalet, Aspin and Peyresourde in between.

At 1’08”, second, came Grande Boucle leader Tadej Pogacar, the Slovenian of UAE Team Emirates controlled the attacks brought to him in the last three kilometers by Danish Team Visma Lease a Bike’s Jonas Vingegaard and finally, in the last 50 meters, pulled him away by 4 seconds.

In the overall standings Pogacar now has a 4’11” lead over Vingegaard, while Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe’s German Florian Lipowitz is now third at 7’53” since Soudal Quick-Step’s Belgian Remco Evenepoel retired on the first ramps of the Tourmalet.

Tomorrow’s final Pyrenean stage, albeit much softer than today’s, the 169.3-kilometer Muret-Carcassonne with three Grands Prix de la Montagne, the most difficult of which is in the second category and over 50 kilometers from the finish.
