Tragedy for Julio Sergio: Enzo, his 15-year-old son, has died.

Tragedy for Julio Sergio Bertagnoli, a former Brazilian goalkeeper known in Italy for having worn in Serie A the jerseys of Lecce and especially Roma, where he was a starter particularly between 2009 and 2011. Now a coach at Coritiba, the Giallorossi’s former goalkeeper told the world heartbreaking news: the death of his son Enzo, just 15 years old.
The boy, who was born in Rome, had been battling cancer for five years. This had been made known by Julio Sergio himself, who also explained Enzo’s increasingly dramatic condition. Indeed, the young man was now in a pharmacological coma, with no realistic hope of recovery. Only earlier this month his father had posted a photo on Instagram in which he showed himself cutting his hair to zero, in solidarity with his son’s struggle and the start of a now imminent chemotherapy cycle.
“I just visited Enzo… the situation is irreversible. He is in an induced coma, sedated as needed, with oxygen. But the most important thing at the moment: he is at peace, surrounded by his parents, family, us: he feels no pain” Julio Sergio had written a few hours before the saddest announcement.
Enzo Bertagnoli had first had surgery in 2022, and initially hopes for his recovery were high. Despite his very young age, he had become an important spokesperson for cancer research in Brazil. Numerous endorsements were collected over time, including those of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gianluigi Buffon, and Francesco Totti. The very man who, at Roma, was his father’s captain in the same years that the unfortunate Enzo came into the world.
