Flavio Cobolli, winning marathon as a thrill-seeker (and injured)

Marathon win at the Toronto Masters 1000 for Flavio Cobolli. The world No. 17, in his debut as No. 13 seed in the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers (prize money $9,193,540), won 6-4 5-7 6-4 over Alexis Galarneau (No. 193) after two hours and 27 minutes.

Cobolli, despite a medical time-out called at the start of the third set for a left leg problem, guaranteed himself a third-round challenge against the winner of the match between Fabian Marozsan (No. 56) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 28 in the world, but 21st seed on the draw).

“It&#8220s always difficult to win this kind of match when the opponent plays incredible tennis, but I&#8217m happy to be able to play here again”, he said warmly.

“Auger-Aliassime? It is always nice to play against a home player. I must say, though, that I have also heard many Italians here in Canada ready to support me”, he reminded his possible next opponent.
