Italbasket, Petrucci believes in DiVincenzo and charges Thompson

Italy is ready to face the European Championships, scheduled to start next Aug. 27, at its best. Unfortunately for coach Pozzecco, the blue roster will be missing Divincenzo, the brightest star.
After the big rush to get Italian citizenship, the Minnesota T’Wolves all-star has let it be known that he won’t be able to attend the European Championships because of the flare-up of a toe problem he’s been carrying for some time. A real mockery for Azzurri fans who dreamed of seeing him on the field in the Azzurri jersey.
Some, via social, voiced some doubts about the’injury that would “stop” Divincenzo. Certainly not Petrucci’s thinking. The FIP president let it be known, via Repubblica, that he blindly believes in the words of the neo-blue guard.
Not only that. Petrucci is convinced that his replacement, namely Thompson, will not make him regret it at all. Born in 1995, an American point guard naturalized Italian, Thompson has just signed with Valencia and, from 2019 to 2021, played in Brindisi. He will by no means have an easy task but, for sure, he will be supported by the Fip president and the rest of the team, including coach Pozzecco who personally chose him to take the place of the injured Divincenzo. Thompson is expected at the Azzurri retreat on Aug. 7.
