Jasmine Paolini to the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati without any particular effort. The Tuscan champion managed to prevail in just over an hour and a half of play over the American Ashlyn Krueger. The match ended in two sets with a score of 7-6(2), 6-1, with the number 35 on the WTA circuit collapsing in the second set after holding her own against the Italian in the first.

The delicacy of the’match and the’balance on the court is demonstrated by what happens between the third and fifth games, characterized by three consecutive breaks that allow Paolini to take a 3-2 lead. However, Krueger regains her serve at 4-4 and cancels two more break points for the Tuscan in the next game. The blue heroine of the 2024 Olympics then managed to nullify a set point and win a tie-break in which she never went down.

If the first set is consumed in over an hour, it takes only half an hour to close the score in the second. There is no jolt in the first three games, then Paolini accelerates and leaves the crumbs to her opponent. Snatching her serve in the first time of the set in a 12-point fourth game and four break points, she repeated in the sixth, this time leaving the dazed Krueger at 15. On the second match point, then, mission accomplished.

Jasmine Paolini’s’adventure on the concrete of Cincinnati thus continues. Her next challenge in the Masters 1000 hosted in the state of Ohio is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, when she will face Czech Barbora Krejcikova fresh from her victory over Iva Jovic. Up for grabs is passage to the quarters, with a possible challenge with home favorite Coco Gauff.
