Indian Wells, Matteo Gigante and Giulio Zeppieri fly to the main draw
The final day of qualifying for the Indian Wells Masters 1000 smiles on Italian tennis. Both Matteo Gigante and Giulio Zeppieri, in fact, have passed the last round of qualifying by gaining access to the main draw of the 'BNP Paribas Open'.
Giant overcame in two sets the Dutch Botic Van de Zandschulp, the third seed in the draw, with a final score of 7-5 6-0 accrued after one hour and twenty minutes of play. Twice trailing by a break in the first set, the 23-year-old Roman è was good at recovering and overturning the score (7-5), before dominating the second partial (6-0).
Zeppieri defeated Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin, world number 166, in two sets with a final score of 7-6 6-2 after an hour and 43 minutes of play. Making the difference è was the tie-break of the first partial, won by the Roman by 8 points to 6 after canceling a set-point. It was all easy in the second set for Zeppieri, who closed with a partial four-game winning streak (6-2).
Thanks to the victories of Gigante and Zeppieri, there are nine Italians in the main draw of the Indian Wells Masters 1000. In addition to the two of them, we find Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Berrettini, Matteo Arnaldi, Lorenzo Sonego, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi and Luca Nardi.
