Cincinnati: back to the real Jasmine Paolini, Lucia Bronzetti eliminated

Sweet day for Italian women’s tennis in Cincinnati: Jasmine Paolini qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament in Ohio, while Lucia Bronzetti was eliminated. Paolini beat Czech Barbora Krejčíková, world number 80, in two sets.

The Tuscan tennis player easily won in two sets with scores of 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour, giving clear signs of revival after difficult weeks. The Italian number one will face in the quarterfinals the U.S. Coco Gauff, who eliminated Lucia Bronzetti’s other Italian player.

Too strong the U.S. world number two, who won with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 20 minutes of play. The Romagnola gave more battle in the second partial, but failed to dent the certainties of the winner of the last Roland Garros tournament.

The challenge between Paolini and Gauff is scheduled for Friday.The two have faced each other four times in the past, with two wins on each side. The most recent, the final of the Internazionali d’Italia, saw Paolini triumph clearly in two sets.
