Charles Leclerc commented on his fourth place in the Italian Grand Prix d’Monza: after a very positive Friday, Ferrari failed to reach the podium goal, and was a spectator to the confrontation between Max Verstappen and the two McLarens.

“We were fast on Friday, but we knew that then in qualifying the others would get closer. And then we came back to reality after qualifying. Today there wasn&#8217t much else I could have done, we maximized everything. It’s gone well with Red Bull, which chose a certain configuration, and they seemed to have gone really really well, which worked great. McLaren was not as extreme as Red Bull, but they were still faster than us. We were in the middle of nowhere”

The podium according to Leclerc was not possible: “We were not fast enough, we did not have the pace of the drivers in front of us. I did my best and it was not possible if not for some mistakes of those in front of me. In Baku maybe we can have our say in qualifying, but then in the race the values on the track come out”.

Team principal Vasseur spoke this way after the race: “We will re-analyze the whole weekend and see if we could do something better or not. If you compare us to McLaren this was one of the best weekends of the season. We finished 5-6 seconds behind them. What was outstanding was Max with Red Bull. In fact, especially Max, because the other Red Bull was much further behind”.
