Kimi Antonelli’s first season at the helm of Mercedes is an up and down. The baby phenom alternates between great tests and rather colorless performances. Being his rookie year, it is clear that difficulties are part of the growth path but, in Formula 1, nobody gives anything away.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff continues to defend his young driver&#8217s performance but it is clear that, in the face of poor results, doubts become more and more. In particular weigh the many mistakes made by the’Italian. To date, there are four GPs in which he has retired. Compared to one podium (in Canada), it is clear that four GPs in which he did not make it to the finish line are a lot to process.

In recent track outings, Kimi Antonelli has shown encouraging signs despite the natural difficulties of adapting to the highest level. During last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix d’Italia held at Monza, the Emilian driver performed reasonably well, finishing sixth on the grid after taking tenth in qualifying, benefiting from the penalty given to Lewis Hamilton.

With eight GPs to go in the World Championship, Kimi Antonelli is called upon to make a concrete improvement in performance, partly to prove that betting on him was the right choice. Mercedes continues to give him credit but it is clear that doubts are always there, especially about a guy driving a Mercedes.
