Marta Cavalli says stop: "I am exhausted"

At only 27 years old, Marta Cavalli is retiring from cycling. L’Azzurra announced it through a very long post published on her Instagram account: “Another season has ended, but the taste it leaves is slightly different… Years and years spent recreating dreams and goals are being felt, and after pouring liters of sweat, grinding kilometers and exceeding my limits over and over again, I feel exhausted”.
“The last few years have been very difficult because of the constant ups and downs – added the Team Picnic PostNL holder -, I chased for a long time a condition that never came back. My legs never came back to running as hard as I wanted them to, and motivation went down. I was at a crossroads many times, but I always chose to stay and get back into the game because giving up never appealed to me”.
“A year ago I faced one of the most difficult moments – admitted the Lombard woman -, I overcame it (fortunately not alone) and returned to running with the number on my back. A year later with serenity I can say I no longer feel part of this world and it is time to say goodbye to the group because here my work is done”.
“I do not hide the sorrow, but there has come that time when it is better to loosen my grip and go after other dreams that I have in my drawer. I have had so much fun in these years in the saddle, met so many people and had no-nonsense adventures.
I have so many people to thank endlessly, first and foremost the teams that have accompanied and supported me. It is time to discover the world from another angle and live a life that is definitely more “normal”” concluded Cavalli.
