Jerome Boateng quits playing soccer

In a video posted on his social profiles, Jerome Boateng officially announced his farewell to playing soccer. The Ghanaian-born German defender, who turned 37 last September 3, had been free since last July 1, after a season played in Austria with LASK Linz. “The time has come” Boateng explained.
“I played for so many years– explained the now former defender -, dressed jerseys of big clubs and my national team. I won and lost on the field, I learned in life: soccer gave me a lot, but now I have to think about looking beyond it. I am not doing this because I have to, but because I feel ready: I can only say thank you for everything I have been able to do”.
“Thanks to the companies that believed in me, to the fans, to those who supported me. And above all, thanks to my family and my children, who have always been there for me over the years” concluded Boateng, who over the course of a high-level career spanning almost two decades has played in three World Cup editions and two European Championships with the Germany jersey.

Jerome Boateng has linked his name, above all, to Bayern Munich, with whom he played for ten seasons from 2011 to 2021. He previously wore the jerseys of Hertha Berlin, Hamburg, and Manchester City, while after his Bavarian experience he was at Lyon for two years, in Italy at Salernitana in the second part of the 2023-2024 season (7 appearances for him), and at LASK Linz in 2024-2025.
