Maria Sharapova returns to training and makes her fans dream

Two years after the last time, Maria Sharapova is back practicing on a tennis court. The 38-year-old Siberian, winner of five Grand Slam tournaments, posted a video in her Instagram stories capturing her return to the court.
“First training session in over two years. I couldn’t find my tennis shoes. I spent $78 to string my racket. Is this the new normal? The tennis store, he told me I must be really good if the string tension is 61-59. I accept the compliment,” Maria wrote.
The Russian outfielder, who retired in 2020 after a 15-month disqualification for meldonium positivity between 2016 and 2017, and then became a mother in 2022, concluded the video with this sentence: “Best 30 minutes of my day. No phone. No distractions. Just me and the ball”.
Is this a prelude to the resounding return to competitive play? Masha would not be the first: Kim Clijsters was one of those who tried again, albeit with poor results. We will see if the former world No. 1 will attempt the big step of returning to the WTA circuit. Certainly all her fans, who for years have admired her on courts around the world, are hoping for it.
