Filippo Volandri è confident ahead of Malaga

With just over a week to go before the Davis Cup finals, which will see Italy face the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, Italian national team coach Filippo Volandri è expressed himself in no uncertain terms to the microphones of the "Corriere dello Sport", regarding his ambitions.

"It has been two years that I have been here, in 2021 I had Bolelli and Fognini, but besides them there'was a very giovabe team with Sinner and Musetti, who were at the beginning of their careers. They, as well as Arnaldi and Sonego, debuted with me. Now I think I have more experience and I think our path of growth has gone further than I expected" began the blue captain.

"There isn't only Jannik Sinner. I am fortunate to be able to count on an important group and even when we lose someone, as in the case of Berrettini, we have the opportunity to compensate with athletes of great depth. Had it not been so; we would never have made a semifinal and we would not have been able to requalify for the Davis finals here in Malaga" added the'former Italian tennis player.

"I am the technical director of the men’s section and the Davis captain, I am not the boys’ coach. When I go to the Slams I do it so I can see them. Unfortunately, by now even those who don’t know things care to have their say, but that’s part of the game" Filippo Volandri commented.
