Milan market: for the post-Mike Maignan two hypotheses dominate

All Milan soccer club: Mike Maignan has carved out a central role for himself in the Rossoneri over the past few years, even going so far as to wear the captain’s armband. However, his contract is set to expire on June 30, 2026, which is why the Milan management is on the one hand working on a renewal that might not even materialize, and on the other on the names of his possible heir. And, at the moment, there are two who are ahead of any other.

Detecting them has been taken care of by the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ which on Saturday presented one candidate already widely known to Italian fans, while the other may be less well known to most. In fact, the first option leads to Parma’s Zion Suzuki, a profile that the ds Igli Tare in particular likes a lot. For the second hypothesis, however, one has to go to the Bundesliga: to Freiburg to be precise.

Here plays Noah Atubolu, a German of Nigerian origin born in 2002 who has done the whole trafila with the youth selections of Germany. His odds are rising sharply, with the numbers rowing on his side: he has already been called upon nine times by Freiburg in this early part of the season, and in three of them his goal has remained unbroken.

The two are likely to be in the mix.

One of the two could be Milan’s new starting goalkeeper, replacing that Maignan who arrived in 2021 to take the place of the man who at the time was considered a genuine Rossoneri pillar: Gigio Donnarumma. The hope of the Milanese management is that his heir can also follow in his footsteps, becoming one of the team’s key players in the coming seasons.
