Davis Cup, Filippo Volandri explains Jannik Sinner's absence

Jannik Sinner will not participate in the Davis Cup. The San Candido outfielder won’t be at the Bologna event, and captain Filippo Volandri wanted to explain the situation.
“Jannik Sinner has not given his availability for 2025. The Davis Cup is, and will always remain, his home and I am sure Jannik will return to the team soon. In the meantime, I can count on a group ready to fight and give everything for the Italian jersey” reads the official FITP note.
“In Bologna it will once again be an exciting adventure, I know the value of these boys and I am sure that the future will bring us new great satisfactions. With our blue boys we have built the successes of the recent past on team spirit and mutual trust. A trust that is based on hard work and the constant availability of each of them to the others. This is why we are convinced that the group will meet in Bologna with an even stronger motivation toward achieving a historic goal to give to the collective and our fans. We will have to overcome tricky opponents starting with Austria, but I am fortunate to be able to count on an’ample roster of players that will allow us to face the engagement with the utmost conviction”.
“We understand and respect Jannik’s decision, which is however very painful for us – added Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation -. It comes at the end of a long and intense season, in which he has once again proved to be an extraordinary point of reference for the whole Italian tennis movement. The Davis Cup represents for him – and for all of us – a symbol of pride and belonging, and we are certain that he will soon return to wear the Azzurri jersey with the same passion and determination as always”.
“At the same time, I want to emphasize the great trust we place in the group led by Filippo Volandri: a solid, united team capable of turning every difficulty into an additional boost. Our boys have already shown that they can achieve extraordinary goals together, and I am convinced that this time as well they will know how to honor the colors of Italy” concluded Binaghi.
