Jasmine Paolini goes down: tough lesson in Madrid

E’Jasmine Paolini’s adventure at the Madrid WTA 1000 ended in the round of 16: the Tuscan tennis player was heavily defeated in two sets 6-2, 6-1 by Greek Maria Sakkari. It took the Hellenic player just one’hour and twenty minutes to get the better of the Azzurra, who was having a bad day.
The former world No. 3 regained her best tennis after slipping to the No. 82 position in the World rankings.
It was her first win against a Top 10 player in over a year. Paolini helped her despite herself with many errors and a precarious physical condition compared to her last outings.
Sakkari will face the winner of the match between Rybakina and Svitolina in the round of 16, while Jasmine will now draw her breath ahead of the long-awaited Internazionali d’Italia in Rome.
Paolini is called to redemption at the Foro Italico, where last season she lost immediately in her debut against Egypt’s Sherif.
