Flavio Cobolli beats Machac in Vienna and books Jannik Sinner

Winning debut for Flavio Cobolli at the Vienna ATP 500. The Roman tennis player, world number 22, beat Tomas Machac, world number 31, in two sets with a final score of 7-6 6-2 after one hour and forty minutes of play.

In the first set the Azure wasted three break points in the fourth game and two more, coinciding with two set-points, in the tenth game. At the tie-break, however, Cobolli managed to close the partial set in his favor at the sixth set-point (8-6).

With the momentum in his favor, the Roman took the serve off the Czech in the opening game of the second set and repeated the break lead in the seventh game, before filing the case on serve (6-2) at the third match point.

Thanks to this victory, Cobolli advances to the round of 16 of the”Erste Bank Open‘ where he will face the winner of the challenge between Jannik Sinner, No. 1 in the seeding and No. 2 in the ATP rankings, and Daniel Altmaier, No. 51 in the world rankings.
