Mattia Zaccagni scored one of the most important goals in the recent history of the Italian national team: the last of the Azzurri&#8217s experience at Euro 2024, which earned the 1-1 draw against Croatia and qualification to the round of 16. In the meantime, there&#8217s a World Cup to conquer, and the Lazio captain sent a clear message to domestic soccer fans but also to coach Gennaro Gattuso.

“I will be satisfied at the end of the season if I have managed to take Lazio where it deserves by making my contribution, but above all if I play the World Cup. I hope so much – Zaccagni admitted to ‘DAZN’ -I remember Germany 2006 very clearly, even though I was only 11 years old. But I followed with great passion that Italy&#8217s expedition. Lifting the cup represents a really strong emotion, but today my dream is to take part in an’edition of the World Cup”.

Can&#8217t miss the memory of participating in the European Championship a year ago, and that right-footed goal against Croatia that gave one of the very few satisfactions the national team has garnered in recent years since its triumph at the European Championship in 2021. “That goal was a magical moment, I will carry it with me forever. However, I hope to experience many more of them”, Zaccagni added.

Finally, a reflection on Lazio, of which he has in time become captain. “When you wear the armband you have some duties to honor, such as always giving the’example both on and off the field– emphasized Zaccagni -. Then it is important to transmit to your teammates the desire to play a game, and also to make those who have just arrived understand what it means to play for this team. I’ve always had so much here, the fans have always supported me and I’m really proud of that. So we always want to give everything on the field, that is a promise”.
