Matteo Berrettini to the quarters in Metz: convincing performance against Vukic

Second victory for Matteo Berrettini in the Moselle Open in Metz, an ATP 250 tournament on indoor cement: after his success in the first round against Frenchman Quentin Halys, victory also came in the round of 16, beating Australian Aleksandar Vukic, number 87 in the ATP rankings, with the score of 7-5(5), 6-3 after an hour and twenty-three minutes of play.
The Roman’s match started well, with an immediate break in his favor, but Vukic reacted and, with a 3-0 partial, managed to turn the situation around. The set continues on the wings of balance until the tie-break, where despite two consecutive mini-breaks in favor of the Australian Berrettini does not lose lucidity and manages to take advantage of the opportunity that lies in front of him at 6-5, to close the fraction.
The set is also very well balanced.
Great balance in the second set as well, at least until 4-3 for Berrettini: in the eighth game, in fact, the finalist at Wimbledon 2021 guesses the right shot on the break ball in his favor and earns the chance to serve for the match, a chance that the Roman himself does not fail by lining up four consecutive points to win the match.
The name of the next opponent is already known: it is young American Learner Tien, No. 38 in the rankings, who defeated Tunisian Moez Echargui (No. 140) 7-6(3), 6-3 in the round of 16. Tien was recently a surprise finalist in Beijing, where, however, he could do nothing against the overpowering Jannik Sinner, winner 6-2, 6-2 in the match played last Oct. 1.
